Who is your Daddy now?
Last year we saw Roger Federer in tears after his match with Rafa Nadal and we all thought that his time is up.
This year he proved us that he can reinvent himself and become number one again. I use to give this example of using all hits in a proper way, when needed, as an analogy to leadership styles, Roger was able to win because of this versatility and a very powerful inner game.
This year at US Open he met again with Novak Djokovic and he made show, hitting from the backyard between his legs.
Nole looked helpless and we all thought that Roger is invincible.
In the semis Rafa Nadal was beaten by Del Potro in 3 sets, all lost at 2. The after game interview showed us Juan very confident in sharing his dream to win his first Grand Slam, but wait what is his record with Roger? 0-7, wow and he is thinking on winning? And Roger won the last 5 titles in row.
He had a dream of winning again for Argentina after 32 years when the one and only Guillermo Villas managed to get the US Open title.
The first set was for Roger, Juan Martin looked nervous and somehow overwhelmed. Slowly he started to hit strong forehand winners leaving Roger many times without response. At a certain point of set 4 he had 36 winners to only 18 for Roger.
Last set was a formality, Juan won in fanfare, and in tears of joy, he made his dream come true.
What about statistics, oh yes, 1-7, but tonight we have one champion, his name is Juan Martin Del Potro.
