How to quit corporate Life, Move to a virtual office and get Paid for people’s change
This questions sounds almost too good to be true. But it actually seems to be the current trend for many managers sick of the same 9 to 5 lifestyle, deadlines and non-empathetic bosses.
One of the major resistances that you can experience is the thought that you need years to become expert in another field and make money, so it is better and safer to be compliant and receive the monthly paycheck.
Another obstacle is the lack of clients, which can be real in case you have been working for a company and all of the sudden you decide to launch a business based on delivering services.
Last and important to be mentioned is perhaps the absence of a portfolio of products and services grouped in a touchable offer. The general perception (yet not necessarily accurate) is that you need a complete one when you start.
Why those thoughts are present in our awareness when we are facing a major lifestyle change? It might be our comfort of habits and repetition of the same ol’ activities, yet very often expecting better results!
So I asked my students from the ICA Balkans coaching program: what was the major factor for their decision to start the coaching journey?
They shared that not only the certification and accreditation, which btw is important, but more likely the integration of an effective coaching conversation that can bring them clients, projects and increase their business. Easily accessing the coaching campus to learn and practice is also a main reason.
Is this a secret well kept by coaches who are making a difference in the market?
I would say that it is nothing but deliberate practice, mentoring in ICF competences and individual effort and determination.
Let us take them one by one:
Deliberate Practice
You take this initiative and decide how many times you engage in coaching conversations with peer students
Skills and behaviors are intensively used in practice sessions
Requirements for a number of internal and external clients
Mentoring ICF Competencies
During 3 months meetings weekly for coaching sessions with a Mentor
Bringing external clients for those mentored sessions
Receiving feedback on competences from an experienced professional coach
Individual Effort
It is difficult to do learning in parallel with practice and integration
Developing own coaching model, key for mastery
Posting and answering comments on the global forum
So, this is the key secret of obtaining clear results as a coach, there is no shortcut, or secret about this, I proved all of the above with the people that come and practice in the Coaching Attic.
